According to the Technical Info button in R13alpha2's CD Ripper, this drive:

- has a 4MB cache
- supports accurate stream
- reports C2 errors

However:

- cache detection detects no cache using several clean test discs.
- the C2 test reads the entire disc and does not set C2 errors using several scratched discs.
- AccurateRip tries to configure using many discs but always fails - it also sometimes takes 10 minutes to fail.

I have two of these drives connected via firewire (via OXFW911 bridges). I've upgraded the firmware in the drives (to 2.45) as well as one of the bridges (to 3.80). I've stripped out all of the upper and lower filter layer drivers in XP (from Sonic Solutions and Gear).

Still the drive behaves just as it did in the beginning.

Is the Technical Info report wrong? Is the drive just horribly buggy or maybe just horrible? Anyone have a clue why the tests and accuraterip configs give the results they do?

External drive always behave differently than internal drive. For instance, regarding your C2 point, the firewire bridge itself would have to support C2 in order for the C2 error pointers to reach dMC for it to know. The same probably applies to the cache and AccurateRip configuration, but I can't say for sure.

Yeah, I have another unit external unit with two LG 52x drives using the same bridges. It exhibits many different odd symptoms. Both drives claim C2 support and accurate stream. However...

Area Sanyo LG

AccurateRip Huge Delays/Never Configures Works fine
Cache Detection None detected 4s vs 100+s Cache Detected 4s vs 4s
Cache Size 0 0 (huh???)
FUA Support No Yes
C2 Support No No

It's pretty clear the 0xford 911 firewire bridge is doing something odd with the sanyo drive not helping either. I probably need to do research into appropriate bridges for secure ripping support...

EDIT: I should have posted this to the beta forum, as I'm using alpha2 for testing.

The shown cache size (ie 4MB) is not used for audio, only normal cd usage. The cache detection routine is the only way to get the true audio cache size.
