View Full Version : dbpoweramp reference crashes
Hi,
I'm using dbpoweramp reference and I have used a very very scratched CD.
When I try to rip a specific track of that CD my whole computer freezes and everything is stopped (even the mouse cursor stopped and the only thing you can do is reset the computer). All other tracks can be ripped without that problem.
Can somebody tell me what option I can enable/disable in dbpoweramp reference to try to rip that very scratched track on the CD?
thanks

Have you tried waiting to see if it finishes?
Edit: also, what format are you converting too and what settings for the conversion are you using (bitrate, channels, etc)?
Also, make sure your drive is in DMA mode and hasn't regressed to PIO mode. This process is described here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=4619

It never finishes, the whole computer is locked, nothing responds, even not the mouse or any key combination on the keyboard. The only solution is resetting the pc

I'm converting to WAV.
The settings:
bits: as source:
frequency: as source
channels: as source
So the source is a normal Audio-CD and I rip this CD to WAV.

It's in Ultra DMA mode. PIO is not used at all.
But I have to say it's only when I rip 1 specific track, all other tracks can be ripped without any problem. And the CD is FULL of scratches over the whole surface. Maybe the CD-rom drive just "freezes" when it can't read the track and therefore the whole computer freezes?
Maybe somebody has an idea
thx
hi,
here is more detailled information what happens:
1) pass 1 ripping goes well to 47%
2) cd-rom stops reading and the LED of the cd-rom goes off
3) PC freezes and nothing responds anymore
I also tried to play the CD in an audio player, and I think the CD is damaged so it can't be played at that track anymore
At 47% of that track the audio player stops and also crashes
So can I conclude that my CD is just damaged at that particular track?
update: I tried to rip that particular track using EAC (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/) and this is working very well.
Can somebody explain me why dbpoweramp reference crashes on that particular track and EAC has no problems with the ripping at all?
thx

If your mouse stops working, then it is something very low level that is stopping working.

yes, I know. But I was wondering why EAC can rip the track without any problems and dbpoweramp not :-s
I was hoping somebody has an explanation for this, because I think it's very weird.
EAC doesn't even have to correct the track much (only on 2 places in the track) while dbpoweramp just freezes here.

Maybe with dbpoweramp you are using c2, with EAC you are not?

yes, I think that's the problem. EAC didn't find c2 errors on a scratched disk while dbpoweramp did find c2 errors on the same disk, so EAC disabled c2 error detection
So the track ripped is but not secure using EAC?
try ripping in r12 with C2 turned off.
try ripping in r12 with C2 turned off.
It still does the same thing when disabling C2
