Trying to convert .aa (Audible) file

I have managed to download a few audiobooks from audible.com and want to convert them so they are compatible with my mp3 player (Sandisk m250). I downloaded the DirectShow codec, and followed the necessary steps to add the .aa filter, but every time I go into dbpowerAMP converter and try to convert the files, an error pops up saying
"The CODEC required to decompress [file] could not be opened.
DirectShow filter for '.aa' not installed, or Audio File Corrupt."

I'm fairly certain I've done all I can to install the .aa DirectShow filter, and that my audio file is not corrupt. Any suggestions for me?

What does dmc Confguration say? it will show you what you have installed.

Can you play the .aa file? test convert it?

This is what I'm getting as well. I've read all the suggestions from the link on how to make this work without success. Any other ideas?

Last week I followed the instructions here on this forum, and all went perfectly.

This week, suddenly, it didn't. I tweaked some things. I uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted a few times throughout the process. Same result--suddenly the converter doesn't work.

The audio files are fine, they are playable by any player. I downloaded format 4, so as to get the best original quality from the final product.

What can I say? It worked before, and a week later it didn't.

I didn't install any other audio-type progs. I didn't do anything to the OS. What else can I look at? It was so nice to have the ability to break my audiobooks up into chapters and label them--much more manageable.

I read the posts at the link above again.

I uninstalled everything, then reinstalled, making sure to use the older version of Manager. Everything else was the same.

It seems to be working again. I guess the version of Manager was the key.

Yes, the older version of Manager is apparently crucial in order for you to be able to convert Audible files.
