problem flac -> mp3

when i try and convert flac files to mp3 they end up extremely slowed down, and play only at a fraction of the speed. I've tried this several times and several different mp3 converters. Any ideas?

What settings are you using for your mp3 files (frequency, channels, bitrate/qualitty setting)?

Do the Flac files play OK?
What happens if you convert the Flac files to wave?
If they convert to playable wave files, perhaps you can then convert the wave files to mp3.
