Is there any loss in sound quality going from m4p to CD to 192 KBPS mp3?

I decided to try an experiment and buy some songs off the iTunes music store. Since I have the Supertramp Retrospectacle CD, I decided to complete the Crime of the Century by buying the three missing songs for $3. The songs sound great, but I can only play them in iTunes. I am sure they will transfer to my ipod fine, but I was hoping to play them in Winamp. My next complaint is that I would like to do the same thing with other Suptertramp CDs by supplementing missing songs to the Supertramp Retrospectacle. However, I noticed that one song "Fool's Overture" on "Even in the Quietest Moments" is available with the Album only. The song is 10:52 in length...could that be the reason? Is that greed not to allow an 11 minute song for the 99c download price?

Yes, each time audio is compressed to lossy quality is lost, by how much is a different matter (you might not hear a difference if the bitrate is high enough).

I can hear a slight difference, but it is very slight.

Either I can see the future, or this question (nearly exactly) was posted on another forum (winamp? HA? D9?)

If you can hear the difference, you might consider using a higher bitrate.

edit: dang! I guess I can't see the future

Do a test on yourself and see what bitrate you can handle until you can tell the difference. :)

That data has been compressed, uncompressed and recompressed. Alot of quality would be lost imo.
