Allrighty... I've browsed through these forums and like some other folks came across a 10+ pager thread that was closed and perused the contents; however, it began confusing me since I'm limited in my converting / audio files knowledge.

Bottom line, I'm going to put my head through my monitor if I have to use that POS SonicStage to upload music onto my stupid bean. I HATE IT. I can't take it anymore. I own a ton of "various artists" CD's and if you own the software, you know what it does with those... if there are 14 tracks, it creates 14 albums!!!! :vmad: and if it's a trance CD with uninterrupted music you're stuck copying and pasting and making the track order on your own once you've moved the songs onto the bean. ANYWHO~~~ I'm sick of it.

What are my options to convert my music to ATRAC and then drop them (I'm assuming here that I can drag and drop once it's converted) onto my Bean. I suppose that to manage the folders I have to still use the slower-than-molasses sonicstage /shudder but I have to find a better way to convert at least. HELP!!!
/end vent and rant

Well seeing how Sony is all proprietary, you probably have no choice except that. However, does Sonic Stage convert other audio files such as mp3 to ATRAC and then send them? If so, you could rip the CD with another program and then import them into SonicStage.

However, this is not the best place to find other software to send ATRAC files to your player. Mabye a sony-specific forum?

i have a similar situation here...i spent hours ripping my cd collection to mp3 once i got the mp3 player in the car, and now am looking for a way to convert the .mp3 files to .omg to play on my Psyc. I really don't want to have to go through the whole ripping process again. Anyone have any ideas?

As far as I know, you have to use SonicStage to create .omg files. I assume, however, that you can convert your existing mp3 files (from your computer if you have stored them there or from your mp3 disks if you didn't save the mp3 files on the computer as well).

Best wishes,
Bill

Sony's Soundforge 8 will convert OMA/OMG files.

As will MarC's Hi-MD renderer http://www.marcnetsystem.co.uk/ .

SonicStage can be a pain, but with the newest version (v3.4), DRM is completely optional and can easily be removed. You can also easily convert to mp3/wav/etc.

Truthfully I am quite surprised that there isn't a codec for dBpoweramp that would encode/decode OMA/OMG files that have no DRM.

MarC, who made Hi-MD renderer would probably be more than willing to help with a project like that (I know him fairly well from the minidisc community forums). It would definitely beat having to use SonicStage.

Theres plentry of info about OMA/OMG (ATRAC3/ATRAC3+), SonicStage, etc. at the minidisc forums for those interested ( http://www.minidisc.org ).

Anyway, I know that quite a few peoiple in the forums there have wondered why this codec didn't exist for dBpoweramp. Initially I was certain that it was a DRM issue, etc. But now with the optional DRM in current SonicStage software I'm not sure.

The main reason there is no OMA/OMG/ATRAC/etc. codec for dMC is that Sony would probably require Spoon to license it and do other things to make it a total PITA to have said codec. On the other hand, it may be more possible now than before, so we'll have to see what develops.
